“He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength.” (Isaiah 40:29, ESV)

Can’t I just sleep?

I’ll admit I have yelled that very question down the hallway to my rowdy children on more than one occasion. Yes – I yelled. Look, we are nothing but human, and I’d rather be honest -- authentic, in my relationship with you. If we don’t have that in our interactions, how are we going to get the support we need to see change happen in our lives? So, yes, I just wanted my world to dial it back a notch.

Looking back, I’ve had days when I didn’t want to get up out of bed. I didn’t want to do much of anything – except sleep. Have you ever gotten so overloaded that everything in you wants to shut down?

So what do we do when the world won’t stop or give us an extra minute to just breathe? We turn to God for our help – for a supernatural rest in the middle of our activities, in the center of our chaos. You know I am a big believer in taking downtime, but even when it isn’t possible, we can find rest in our Source. He’s the One we cling to for strength and help in times of trouble. (Psalm 46:1)

Pray it. Father, I need you to uphold me. I feel weak and overwhelmed. But I will walk in victory, through Jesus. You promised in Your Word that You give power to the faint, and to the one who has no might, You increase her strength. Increase my strength for today.

Proclaim it! Today I will rise above my circumstances. I won’t be tempted to fall into depression or surrender to defeat. I may not have all the answers, but I am following the One who does. I am fully awake, and I am an overcomer!
